As Engineer, you will be single responsible for the machine on board the ship, i.e. that you independently take care of operation and maintenance of the engine, as well as various cranes, electricity and hydraulics on board. The Engineer works as a day worker and has engine watch in the evening and night (via alarm in the engine room). It is also your responsibility to ensure that the FRBs on board are reliable at all times. During both drills and real-life situations, you will be responsible for operating the crane in connection with launching the boat.
The job is very versatile, as in addition to being responsible for the engine, you will also handle all other technical tasks on board – ranging from replacing a circuit board in a radar to repairing air conditioners and engines. In addition, the Engineer is part of the emergency preparedness, which means taking an active role in onboard drills related to first aid, fire, and rescue.
As a person, you should be solution-oriented and able to stay calm in hectic situations. You need to be structured and able to manage varying tasks and plan your workday. You should also have an interest in Fast Rescue Boats (FRB) and possess an all-round technical understanding of troubleshooting and repairing diesel-electric engines (knowledge of Cummins is an advantage).
